De corporatie Ymere en het NAi stelden de vraag welke rol Haarlem-Oost vervult in de metropoolregio Amsterdam. Wij hebben de visie Creating Class opgesteld om de wijk sociaaleconomisch te versterken en complementair te laten zijn aan de overige economische knopen in de regio.

De CREATING CLASS © zijn trotse vakmensen en actieve inwoners. Het verenigt uiteenlopende trends in zich, zoals het belang van innovatie en vakmanschap, het belang van het lokale – bijvoorbeeld in de vorm van lokale biologische producten – en de onafhankelijkheid van burgers inzake ruimtelijke ontwikkeling. Haarlem-Oost wordt gezien als het centrum van de Creating Class en Industry. Haarlem-Oost voegt zo waarde toe aan de netwerkstad Metropoolregio Amsterdam door lokale productie (van creatieve ideeën), aanbod van vakmensen en bijzondere voorzieningen en producten.
Creating Class steunt op drie pilaren: de gebruiker, de bereikbaarheid en de marketing. In het gebied wordt volop ruimte gegeven aan organische initiatieven van bewoners – bijvoorbeeld: urban farming, het zelf bouwen van woningen, het beginnen van bedrijven. Hierdoor ontstaan gedifferentieerde gebieden. De openbaar vervoer-tangenten en -dwarsverbanden van de netwerkstad worden verbeterd.
Schalkwijk, Parkwijk en Zuiderpolder zijn de kraamkamers van deze Creating Class, met ruimte voor experiment en goed wonen in een ruime en groene structuur. De Slachthuisbuurt en omliggende buurten vormen een overgangsgebied, een ondernemerswijk met kansen voor kleine bedrijven. Het Slachthuisterrein zelf wordt een multifunctioneel centrum om te leren en te starten met ondernemen. In de Waarderpolder krijgt de Creating Industry de ruimte om door te groeien naar grotere bedrijfs(verzamel)gebouwen, te professionaliseren, samen te  werken en te innoveren.

De Creating Class is ontwikkeld voor de prijsvraag New Harloheim. Onze inzending Creating Class was genomineerd voor de eindprijs en won uiteindelijk de tweede prijs.

Vervolg

Het Stimuleringsfonds voor Architectuur vroeg om voorstellen waarbij de relatie tussen stedenbouw en economie wordt onderzocht. Wij hebben voorgesteld om ons project Creating Class verder te onderzoeken. Ons concept is uit 56 andere voorstellen geselecteerd.
We hebben allereerst een subsidie gekregen om een duidelijke vraagstelling te formuleren, samenwerkingspartners te selecteren en een Plan van Aanpak op te stellen.

Het project Creating Class hebben wij veelvuldig gepresenteerd, gepubliceerd en gebruikt omdat het laat zien dat stedenbouw en economie met elkaar verweven zijn. Zelfs na 3 jaar blijft het actueel en is het project in 2015 gepresenteerd bij het productief maken van de Antwerpse haven.

The ‘New Harloheim’ competition deals with the question about the role of Haarlem-East in the metropolitan area of Amsterdam. Our proposal Creating Class was nominated out of 33 entries and won the second prize.The CREATING CLASS © is formed by proud craftsmen and active citizens. This concept unites different current trends, such as the importance of innovation and craftsmanship, the importance of the local – for example in the form of local organic products – and the involvement of the public in spatial development. Haarlem East is seen as the centre of the Creating Class and Industry. In this way, Haarlem East adds value to the network city of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area by local production (from creative ideas), supply of craftsmen and special amenities and products.
Creating Class is based on three pillars: the user, accessibility and marketing. The area gives plenty of space to organic initiatives – for example, urban farming, the possibility to build houses, and starting businesses. This creates differentiated zones. At the same time, the public transport tangents and connections of the network will be improved.
The neighbourhoods Schalkwijk, and Parkwijk Zuiderpolder are the nursery rooms of the Creating Class, with space for experimentation and well living in a spacious and green environment. The Slachthuis (abattoir) neighbourhood and surrounding areas are a transition zone between the city centre and business area with plenty of space for small businesses. The former abattoir itself is a multifunctional centre to learn and start business. Welfare, education and companies work together to educate, to start-up business and to professionalise existing companies. The Creative Industries Fund called for proposals that research the relationship between urbanism and economy. We proposed to make a more extensive research about our concept of the Creating Class. Although the Creating Class was developed for the city of Haarlem but offers more cities opportunities to create a more diverse economy. Out of 56 entries our proposal was selected. The Open Call gave us the opportunity to find partners for our research, make research questions and research approach and to apply for a regular grant.

The Creating Class keeps on being relevant, for example, in 2015 we were asked to present the project during a workshop about the productive port of Antwerp.

El concurso ‘New Harloheim’ pregunta acerca de la posición de Haarlem Oriental en el Área Metropolitana de Ámsterdam. Nuestra propuesta fue nominada entre 33 y gano el Segundo premio.

La CLASE CREADORA © esta formada por trabajadores orgullosos y ciudadanos activos. Este concepto unifica en si variadas tendencias como la importancia de innovación, mano de obra, artesanía, la importancia de productos locales – por ejemplo productos orgánicos – y la participación publica en el planeamiento espacial y desarrollo urbano. Haarlem Oriental es el centro de la Clase e Industria Creadora. De esta manera, Haarlem Oriental enriquece el Área Metropolitana de Ámsterdam a través de productos locales (que se originan en ideas creativas), provisión de mano de obra calificada y productos y equipamientos exclusivos.
La Clase Creadora se apoya en tres pilares: los usuarios, accesibilidad y el marketing. El area ofrece inmensas posibilidades para iniciativas desde abajo – como agricultura urbana, autoconstrucción y el inicio de negocios propios. Esto crea zonas diferenciadas en el área. Al mismo tiempo, las conexiones tangentes de transporte público y todo el sistema vial son mejorados.
Los barrios Schalkwijk y Parkwijk Zuiderpolder son los semilleros de la Clase Creadora, ofreciendo espacio para experimentación y calidad de vida en un ambiente abierto y verde. El vecindario del antiguo matadero y sus áreas alrededor se convierten en una zona de transición entre el centro de Haarlem y la zona industrial y de negocios con suficiente espacio para el inicio de pequeños negocios. El antiguo matadero se convierte en un centro multifuncional para formar e iniciar negocios. Bienestar, educación y empresas trabajando juntas para formar, empezar negocios y profesionalizar empresas existentes. El área industrial del Waarderpolder ofrece el espacio a la Industria Creadora para crecer, profesionalizarse, colaborar e innovar.
